The energy that enters the body is called Prana, and the one that leaves the body, Apana.
There can be a disbalance of Apana, which means it is not leaving the body properly and thus problems with toxins accumulation can arise in all areas of the body.
The main goal of Pranayama is to bring Prana and Apana towards the navel region, where Agni (the fire energy is sitting). Then bring both Prana and Apana up towards the Shushimni Nadi (the central spinal column) and then re-distribute it to all the chakras. Read more in slides
