The Benefits of SOY

Soy is such a controversial topic among many health experts.

The main reason for this is that the majority consume GMO and non-organic soy products that indeed can cause hormonal imbalance and other health issues.

From my personal experience, I had hormonal issues when I just went vegan and I was eating non-organic soy. Once I made the switch to only organic, all problems stopped. And I eat a lot of tofu now.

ONLY EAT ORGANIC SOY PRODUCTS.

As per HMI Nutrition School, “The only reason why you might have problems when eating soy is if you are iodine deficient. But that doesn’t mean you have to stop eating soy. You need to supplement with iodine”.

As per Harvard Nutrition Studies:

“Soy foods are rich in nutrients including B vitamins, fiber, potassium, magnesium, and high-quality protein. Unlike some plant proteins, soy protein is considered a complete protein, containing all nine essential amino acids that the body cannot make which must be obtained from the diet”

Also from Harvard studies:

“Soy is a nutrient-dense source of protein that can safely be consumed several times a week, and probably more often, and is likely to provide health benefits—especially when eaten as an alternative to red and processed meat”

Also, as per NHI:

* Consuming soy protein in place of other proteins may lower levels of total cholesterol and LDL (“bad”) cholesterol to a small extent.

* Soy isoflavone supplements or soy protein may help to reduce the frequency and severity of menopausal hot flashes.

* Observational studies indicate that among Asian women, higher dietary intakes of soy during childhood and adolescence are associated with a lower risk of breast cancer later in life.

* Current evidence suggests that soy isoflavone mixtures probably have a beneficial effect on bone health in postmenopausal women
* Soy protein may slightly reduce blood pressure in people with hypertension (high blood pressure).

***A note on Soy Sauce.

Most soy sauces contain wheat or corn syrup. Best alternative is Gluten-Free Low Sodium Tamari sauce
