Is Aluminum in your deodorant safe?
The below information is written by Liana Shanti, Clinical Nutritionist and founder of HMI Nutrition School, a plant-based health coaching school.
“99% of breast cancer tissue tests positive for parabens, a toxin found in most deodorants!
Parabens are preservatives used in antiperspirants, lotions, sunscreens, and cosmetics.
Research shows that most cancers develop in the upper/outer quadrant of the breasts. The same area where deodorants are applied exposes the lymph nodes to dangerous toxins like parabens.
Use natural forms of deodorant rather than commercial brands.
LINK BETWEEN DEODORANTS AND BREAST CANCER, AND UNDERARM SHAVING WITH USE OF DEODORANT AND CANCER.
PARABENS: Parabens are synthetic preservatives often found in deodorants. Research done on samples of human breast tumor tissue found parabens in over 90% of the samples.
Absorption of parabens disrupts our hormonal balance, which can lead to an increased risk of hormonal-based cancers. Paraben exposure has also been linked to birth defects and organ toxicity.
ALUMINUM: The main ingredient in many antiperspirants is aluminum. Aluminum is a metal, which is used in antiperspirants to help block the sweat from escaping the pores. Aluminum has been linked to breast cancer in women and has also been linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease.
CONNECTION WITH SHAVING: A study done on 437 breast cancer survivors found that the age of breast cancer diagnosis was significantly earlier in women who used deodorants and shaved their underarms more frequently. Furthermore, women who began both of these underarm hygiene habits before 16 years of age were diagnosed with breast cancer at an earlier age than those who began these habits later. Researchers found that although not conclusive, underarm shaving with the use of antiperspirants/deodorants may be related to breast cancer.
A student asks "What body deodorant would you recommend"?
If possible, I would recommend not using any for anyone who is eating mostly raw, you generally don't have much of a body odor when you are alkaline. Acidity causes body odors.
If you do have odors that you could not be going to work or out in public with, I would recommend only types that do not contain: parabens, PEGs, or synthetic ingredients including hormone-disrupting fragrances and antibacterials, petrochemicals, or aluminum compounds.”
