Since I switched to a holistic lifestyle I began to pay more attention to what goes into my body. I no longer compromise on the quality of my foods and buy all organic.
I know it can be very expensive for some to buy all organic. I would suggest trying to gradually add in more organic produce whenever you can afford it.
Oftentimes, local farmers’ markets will have lower prices than big chain stores. A lot of local farms have weekly sales at their farms’ locations and this way prices can be even more affordable.
Big stores also carry organic produce, but that produce is rarely local. You can see it right on the label - the country it was imported from. And most often, the standards of organic farming in that country might differ from our local standards.
Non-organic produce is loaded with harmful pesticides. Constant use of produce that is heavily sprayed with pesticides over time can take a heavy toll on your health. Some examples are rashes, nausea, dizziness, and diarrhea. Also more severe chronic effects such as immunotoxicity, and harm to the endocrine system, and reproductive systems.
“More than 70 percent of non-organic fresh produce sold in the U.S. contains residues of potentially harmful pesticides, EWG’s 2022 Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce™ finds” - according to www.ewg.org.
