30 Self-care tips during Juice Detox
What can you do to support yourself during a juice detox, especially when you will begin to experience detoxification symptoms aka Healing Crisis?
Help yourself to stay more in tune with your body, mind, and your soul, because on a Juice Cleanse not only your physical body gets to heal. A lot of the hidden and suppressed emotions and feelings such as rage or even depression may come up. You might feel irritated or feel a sudden burst of energy, or even begin to cry for no reason. It means, that alongside with physical healing of your body, you are going through deep emotional and spiritual healing. And this is a beautiful process, but it might not seem like that same very moment.
What I’d recommend doing:
Avoid watching TV
No loud and disturbing music
Refrain from reading any news (the world will not disappear in ten days, but leaving the negativity and disturbing news away is better for you)
Use the computer only if needed for your work or for some spiritual and uplifting learning, or healing music
Stay away from social media as much as possible. And you can share your amazing transformation from the detox later.
Spend as much time as possible in nature parks outside. Take daily walks for at least 30 minutes.
Walk barefoot if possible. A direct connection with Mother Earth will help you get back into your body, feel more present, and stay grounded.
Sit under the sun with a maximum of bare skin being exposed for 20-30 minutes a day. Natural Vitamin D is the most needed vitamin for your body. Lack of Vitamin D leads to depression, mood swings, and lack of energy.
Tell your friends that you are doing a very special detox and will not be able to meet them for dinners and parties during detox time. Or you can meet if they know you will bring your juice and you can handle being around people who will eat all sorts of foods. It is very tempting and takes some courage and discipline to not eat when everyone is around you.
Ignore all unimportant calls.
Check your personal email twice a day and reply only to important messages.
Go to bed no later than 10 pm. Try to follow the natural rhythms of Nature as much as possible. Typically when the sun goes down we need to stop our activities. Be in bed already by 9:30 pm. And allow yourself 30 min to fall asleep. It has been proven by Ayurveda that the body truly rests between the hours of 10 pm to 12 pm.
Keep your room well-ventilated. Let more fresh air come in.
Stay away from your cell phone as many times as possible. Information consumption 24/7 is also the reason we can be feeling drained. We are constantly processing an overload of info, marketing, advertisement, news, etc.
Use Essential oils. Burn aromatherapy essential oils, use essence sticks, and burn candles - all these will help stay grounded and relaxed. Lavender essential oil helps to calm down. My favorite is also ylang-ylang oil.
Spend time alone to process your emotions. This can be your best time to be with yourself. Detox is not only a physical cleanse but also an emotional and spiritual cleansing. So if you feel sudden emotional outbursts, don't be surprised. Let them come out. Don't try to figure out why. Just let it all be. If you feel you need silence - please do it! Hidden emotions might surface. Because our mind is not spending energy on digesting food anymore, it is not attached to the senses and taste when we savor meals, you will notice that uncomfortable feelings may arise.
Journaling all that comes up without judgements is also a great practice to release your emotions.
Read your favorite spiritual books and watch inspirational movies.
Do gentle yoga and stretching as well as breathing exercises.
Avoid strenuous exercise.
Do a gentle rebounding on a mini trampoline. This helps with lymph circulation
Meditate.
Use Dry Skin brushing in the morning before the shower, and also before going to bed. Stimulating the lymph will help with better circulation and thus will move the toxins out faster.
Take a sauna. As the skin is our largest organ we release toxins through sweating as well.
Take Epsom salt baths.
Do a tongue scraping in the morning and evening when brushing your teeth.
Take hot and cold showers, as this also helps to expel the toxins.
Drink an extra glass of water when feeling like a lot of toxins are being released.
Drink herbal calming teas like camomile, peppermint, spearmint, and lavender.
Do a coffee enema every day (which is a must on a juice cleanse anyway). If you feel overwhelmed with emotions, do a second one as well during the day.
And finally …
TAKE IT EASY. Lighten up your work and responsibilities. Your body’s primary focus will be cleansing during this period, so relax and let your body work its magic.
Listen to your body. Always listen to what your body is telling you. If you are used to an intense exercise routine and you don't feel you have enough energy- stop. Listen to the feeling of being tired, and instead, lie down, drink chamomile tea, and rest.
If you feel even going to bed earlier, by all means, do it, even if it’s 7 pm!
