Reality Behind 'Raw' Almonds in US Stores
There are really no authentically raw almonds that you can buy in any of the stores across the US.
It may say raw, which only will means almonds were not roasted.
But they are not truly Raw anymore.
In 2007 USDA made a rule that all almonds grown in California (and that is 75% of all the almonds on the market in the US) need to be either heat pasteurized or gassed with the fumigant, propylene oxide. And this included organically grown almonds too.
The best source to get true raw nuts is from Europe (nuts.com specifically says their almonds are not treated by heat and are coming from Spain).
